The City of Perth Amboy is offering a Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT) course starting April 8th designed to provide basic skills to respond to the community's immediate needs in the aftermath of a large-scale emergency when vital services may not be immediately available.
The Perth Amboy Office of Emergency Management, Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service personnel will conduct the 12-week course.
"The CERT course will provide essential information to help protect those who live and work in Perth Amboy in the event of a major emergency," said Mayor Diaz. "We encourage people to take part in this invaluable course."
CERT can provide the skills needed to assist in saving lives and protecting property using the basic techniques in this course. Attendees will receive training in a variety of areas, which include identifying types of hazards that are most likely to affect homes and the community, taking steps to prepare for a disaster, and treatment strategies for life-threatening conditions.
The certification will be held in the Police Headquarters' emergency management office as well as off-site facilities. Classes will be held each Wednesday evening starting on April 8th through graduation on June 11th.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and live or work in the City of Perth Amboy. For applications or additional information please call Detective Thomas Hudanish of the Office of Professional Standards at 732-324-3863 or stop by police headquarters.
