Office of Economic & Community Development

The office administers the HUD-CDBG and HOME program. The office works with non-profits and city departments to plan and provide a variety of services and improvements. It performs various planning functions including the submission of grant application requests for state and federal assistance. The office plans and oversees most of the city's development projects that have included new park development, park improvements, historic restoration, waterfront development, and numerous public improvements.

The purpose of the City of Perth Amboy’s Office of Economic and Community Development (OECD) is to encourage development that reflects, preserves and enhances the City’s unique culture and historic character that results in economic vitality, a diverse tax base, environmental sustainability and a higher quality of life for its residents.

OECD also works in partnership with a wide range of public agencies, non-profit organizations, and developers to provide vital community programs and develop affordable housing opportunities. All CDBG and HOME funding procured through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services is administered through the OECD.

Welcome to the Open Space & Recreation Element of Perth Amboy’s Master Plan 2025

The Open Space & Recreation Element of the Master Plan 2025 is a key pillar in guiding how Perth Amboy protects, enhances, and expands its parks, recreational facilities, and natural areas. This element outlines a community-driven vision for creating a healthier, more vibrant city by prioritizing access to green spaces, recreational opportunities, and environmental stewardship.

Through a detailed analysis of existing parklands, public input, and recreation needs, this plan sets the foundation for future investment in both active and passive recreation areas, open space preservation, and equitable access across all neighborhoods. It also identifies opportunities for revitalizing underutilized spaces, improving park infrastructure, and creating a more connected and inclusive park system for all ages and abilities.

This document is for discussion purposes only and will be presented during the community meeting on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Alexander F. Jankowski Community Center, 1 Olive Street, Perth Amboy.
