PERTH AMBOY POLICE DEPARTMENT INCREASED PATROLS TO ENSURE FIREWORKS SAFETY THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY

PERTH AMBOY, NJ (7/2/2024)- Mayor Helmin J. Caba and Chief Larry Cattano of the Perth Amboy Police Department announced increased patrols before, during, and after Independence Day. This initiative aims to stop the use of illegal aerial fireworks and enforce city and state laws.

Legal Fireworks:

Under New Jersey law (N.J.S.A. 21:2-1 et seq., as amended by P.L.2017, C.92), it is illegal to sell, offer for sale, possess, or use fireworks without a valid permit. However, individuals 16 and older can legally buy and use:

• Handheld or ground-based sparklers
• Snakes and glow worms
• Smoke devices
• Trick noisemakers (party poppers, snappers, drop pops)

Prohibited Actions:

• Selling or offering for sale any fireworks other than sparklers and novelties without a permit is a fourth-degree crime.
• Purchasing, using, discharging, igniting, or possessing fireworks without a permit is a petty disorderly person’s offense.
• Businesses must clearly disclose that fireworks, other than permissible sparklers and novelties, are illegal without a valid permit. Failure to do so violates the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.

Prohibited Fireworks:

Without a special permit, the following are not allowed:

• Firecrackers
• Bottle rockets
• Roman candles
• Aerial fireworks
• Any other explosive devices not classified as sparklers or novelties

Fireworks cause over 10,000 injuries and 20,000 fires each year. The Perth Amboy Police Department urges all residents and visitors to celebrate safely and responsibly. PERTH AMBOY, NJ (2/7/2024)- El alcalde Helmin J. Caba y el jefe de policía Larry Cattano del Departamento de Policía de Perth Amboy anunciaron que habrá un aumento en las patrullas antes, durante y después del Día de la Independencia. Esta iniciativa tiene como objetivo disuadir el uso de fuegos artificiales ilegales y hacer cumplir las ordenanzas municipales y las leyes estatales que prohíben su posesión y uso.

Información Importante sobre la Seguridad y la Legalidad de los Fuegos Artificiales:

Según la ley de Nueva Jersey (N.J.S.A. 21:2-1 et seq., según enmendada por P.L.2017, C.92), es ilegal vender, ofrecer en venta, poseer o usar fuegos artificiales sin un permiso válido. Sin embargo, las personas de 16 años o más pueden comprar y usar legalmente:

• Chispas de mano o en el suelo
• Serpientes y gusanos luminosos
• Dispositivos de humo
• Dispositivos de truco como petardos, chasquidos y explosiones

Acciones Prohibidas:

• Vender u ofrecer en venta cualquier fuego artificial que no sean dispositivos de chispa y novedades sin el permiso requerido es un delito de cuarto grado.
• Comprar, usar, disparar, encender o poseer fuegos artificiales sin un permiso es una ofensa de desorden público.
• Las empresas que publiciten o vendan fuegos artificiales a residentes de Nueva Jersey deben divulgar claramente que los fuegos artificiales, aparte de los chispeadores y novedades permitidos, son ilegales sin un permiso válido. No hacerlo viola la Ley de Fraude al Consumidor de Nueva Jersey.

Fuegos Artificiales Prohibidos:

Sin un permiso especial, no se permiten los siguientes:

• Petardos
• Cohetes de botella
• Velas romanas
• Fuegos artificiales aéreos
• Cualquier otro dispositivo explosivo que no esté clasificado como bengalas o novedades
