2024 HOLIDAY SCAMS: STAY ALERT & STAY SAFE!
The City of Perth Amboy warns residents about several scams targeting individuals during the holiday season. Awareness and prevention are key to staying safe. Below is a list of common scams and tips to protect yourself.











1. Virtual Kidnapping Ransom Scam

  • Signs: Calls claiming your child is in danger.
  • Tips:
    • Slow the situation down and verify the claims.
    • Attempt to contact your loved one directly.
    • Notify Perth Amboy Police: 732-442-4400.

2. Student Loan Forgiveness Scams

  • Signs: Requests for upfront payments for "guaranteed" relief.
  • Tips:
    • Use only U.S. Department of Education-approved resources.
    • Visit Federal Student Aid for assistance.
