Perth Amboy Free Public Library is Now a Historical Site!
Great News for Perth Amboy: Our Library is Now a Historical Site!
We’re excited to share that the Perth Amboy Free Public Library has officially been recognized as a historical site in New Jersey!
This happened today, November 14, 2025, during the NJ State Review Board for Historical Sites meeting. Margaret Newman, a historic preservation expert, gave a great presentation to the board, walking them through the library’s history and development. The board was impressed, and after reviewing the details, they voted unanimously to add the library to New Jersey’s list of historical sites.
This recognition is a big step for our community. Being part of New Jersey’s historical sites means more visibility for our library, and it opens up opportunities for grants aimed at preserving historical landmarks.
What’s next? We’re now looking into the possibility of having our library added to the National Register of Historic Places, which would be another exciting achievement. I’ll keep everyone posted on the progress.
This accomplishment has been years in the making, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of all of you. Thanks again, and congratulations to everyone in our community! We’re proud to share this milestone with you.
