Perth Amboy Honors Fallen Officers

Perth Amboy to Honor Fallen Officers With Lasting Tributes

Date: November 14, 2024

Event Date: Early Spring 2025

Honoring Our Heroes

Perth Amboy is preparing to honor the memory and sacrifice of three police officers who devoted their lives to protecting the community. This heartfelt initiative, championed by Councilman Ken Puccio, a retired Perth Amboy police officer, was introduced in August 2024 and unanimously approved by the City Council in September.

The Ceremonies

Join us in spring 2025 as the city comes together for dedication ceremonies at the Perth Amboy Marina and Ogden Place. These events will reflect on the bravery, dedication, and community impact of Police Officer Thomas Raji, Lieutenant David Formeza, and Police Officer Arcadio Rivera Jr.

  • Location: Perth Amboy Marina (260 Front St.), Ogden Place
  • What to Expect:
    • Dedication of two police vessels
    • Unveiling of a permanent street sign

Our Heroes

Officer Thomas Raji

Marine 2, a police boat, will be renamed in honor of Officer Raji, who served the Perth Amboy Police Department for a decade. Known for his commitment to the community, Raji tragically passed away in 2008 at the age of 31. He is survived by his wife, Marisol, and daughter, Mikayla.

Lieutenant David Formeza

Marine 3 will bear the name of Lieutenant Formeza, a lifelong Perth Amboy resident who served with distinction for over 19 years. His leadership and dedication continue to inspire colleagues and community members alike.

Officer Arcadio Rivera Jr.

A permanent street sign at Ogden Place will commemorate Officer Rivera, a U.S. Marine veteran and 26-year member of the department. Officer Rivera leaves behind three sons, Arcadio III, Luis Armando, and Angel Isaiah.

Community Reflections

“This effort was deeply personal for me,” said Councilman Ken Puccio. “These dedications will keep their names and sacrifices alive in our city’s memory.”

“It’s hard to put into words what these officers meant to us,” Police Chief Larry Cattano remarked. “This is one way we can ensure their contributions are always remembered.”

“We owe so much to those who serve and protect our city,” Mayor Helmin Caba added. “These dedications will stand as a lasting reminder of their bravery and of the community’s gratitude.”

Stay tuned for more details on the ceremonies and join us as we celebrate the lives and legacies of our fallen heroes.
