The City of Perth Amboy, A Green and Clean Community, has partnered with ShopRite of Perth Amboy for a free reusable shopping tote bag giveaway.
Shop on Saturday, May 9, between 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. and you will receive a free sturdy reusable shopping bag for each $25 you spend in groceries. Seniors, shop on Wednesday, May 6, between 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and receive a free reusable tote bag for each $10 you spend in the store.

Facts:
- According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic bags annually. An estimated 12 million barrels of oil is required to make that many plastic bags.
- The average family accumulates 60 plastic bags in only four trips to the grocery store.
- Single use bags made of HDPE are the main culprit. Once brought into existence to tote your purchases, they accumulate and persist on our planet for up to 1,000 years.
- Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animals and bird deaths every year.
- Millions of bags end up outside our landfills creating litter, entrapment in trees or storm gutter drains, our bays and waterways.
